The inside of a Meteorite. "Fun fact: Widmanstätten patterns found inside meteorites cannot be replicated on Earth. This is because the patterns can only be formed in extremely slowly cooling nickel/iron mixtures (over millions of years) to form two different alloys: Taenite and Kamacite, that form slightly different crystal structures." Meteorite. The beautiful and mysterious Fukang meteorite believed to be some 4.5 billion years old, which is as ancient as Earth itself. It was unearthed near a town of the same name in China, in 2000. It is a pallasite, a type of meteorite with translucent golden crystals of olivine embedded in a silvery honeycomb of nickel-iron. It’s a gorgeous meteorite, and possibly the most stunning extraterrestrial piece of rock man has ever seen. The original meteorite weighed just over a thousand K, but Beautiful Things, Stunningly Beautiful, Beautiful Images

Osmium is both the densest and the rarest element that you can dig out of the Earth. It's so hard that it's used (as an alloy) in places with constant pressure and wear, like the tips of fountain pens. One single cubic inch of this stuff weighs nearly a pound, and were you to somehow get a cubic foot of it, it would weigh over 1,400 pounds. Good luck with that, though: last year, the entire U.S. osmium production was only 165 pounds. Precious Gems, Precious Metals, Semi Precious, Beautiful Pictures

Geodes are created when gasses become trapped in the layers of rock - usually volcanic rocks. Crystalline structures form on the inside, surrounded by harder minerals - for example amethyst surrounded by agate. Quartz Geode, Quartz Crystal, Amethyst Birthstone

Labradorite - gorgeous colors--According to an Eskimo legend, the Northern Lights were once imprisoned in the rocks along the coast of Labrador. It is told that a wandering Eskimo warrior found them and was able to free most of the lights with a mighty blow of his spear. Some of the lights were still trapped within the stone, and thus we have today the beautiful mineral known as labradorite.
