Confusing expectations for twice exceptional students causes them to have very low self-concept, as explained by King. Gifted students, their parents, and teachers, have very high expectations, but their learning disability often causes them to fall short. Just as likely; however, is the lowering expectations too much because of the LD diagnosis, and not seeing the student for their gifted capabilities. Either way, self-concept suffers. How do we recognize which is the case for our students?
