NGC 474 is an elliptical galaxy in the constellation Pisces. This large galaxy is known to possess tidal tails, although their origins remain unknown. These tidal tails may be related to debris left over from absorbing numerous small galaxies in the past billion years. Or the shells may be like ripples in a pond, where the ongoing collision with the spiral galaxy just above NGC 474 is causing density waves to ripple though it.

We are alone in the universe..the most ridiculous statement ever made. Probability has us with at least a few other BILLION planets that have inhabitants most likely far more intelligent than us as well.

Galaxy NGC 2442, aka the Meat-hook Galaxy, is some 50 mly away in the Volans constellation, the Flying Fish. The galaxy is 75,000 ly wide & features two dusty spiral arms extending from a pronounced central bar that give it a hook-like appearance. The galaxy’s distorted shape is most likely the result of a close encounter w/ a smaller, unseen galaxy

Centaurus A, and Its Giant Black Hole. (Dai due poli di Centaurus A partono due emissioni di onde-radio a getto della lunghezza di diversi milioni di anni-luce. Al centro della galassia si pensa sia situato un buco nero supermassiccio di molti milioni di masse solari.)
