Carl informed Anaya and her mother that when the first TJ’s stores were opening in the late 60s, early 70s, tiki culture was very trendy and thus their founder Joe Coulombe decided to have the employees, or “crew” as they are called, wear Hawaiian shirts. He explained that the crew member uniforms were an important aspect of the company’s vision and overall theme of every store.
27. That evening Anaya’s mother made curry with the Tika Masala simmer sauce and prepared a variety of the frozen dishes. Anaya along with her family were pleased with the quality and taste of the dishes. The frozen garlic naan had an authenticity and freshness not unlike the fresh baked naan that her dadi made.
