It's funny that so many of my memories of wonderful times rest in coffeeshops. Of them all, Paul's is the favorite, for both coffee and conversation: the new year, with my kid in DC, right before we hit the museums.
The Helms Bakery Trucks were based in Culver City and later in Montebello too. The bakery was famous in LA and the So Bay, it operated from 1931 to 1969. Paul Helms started Helms Bakery in a building between Washington & Venice Blvd, on March 2, 1931.
