This 'gastric rainbow', is a microscopic section through a mouse stomach. The black area at the top is where food is digested by enzymes and acids, and these are made by the green and magenta cells, respectively. The red cells that line the surface of the stomach secrete mucus to protect the stomach from digesting itself.
