5th graders perform historical street theater in Kragerø, Norway. In 2013 we celebrated the 100 year anniversary for the women's vote in Norway. The girl is rolemodelling one of the "match girls" working under gruesome conditions in a shack of a factory. Almost all got the serious illness of phosfor necrosis. They were the first women on strike in Norway in 1889. They paved the road for our welfare society to day. Photo: Mette K. Ofstad

This is a geological nature trail where 5th graders (and others!) can see the evolution of the earth from Ordovicium to the Quaternary period. The trail is 1,2 kilometer long. The last millimeter is the stone age and onward to our own time. Photo: Jan-Åge Pedersen

Trying out the wetsuits. The water is cold, but the 7th graders love it anyway. They are mapping the occurrences of eel grass in the coastal waters of Kragerø, Norway. Photo: Petter Jørgensen

7th graders are mapping the occurrences of eel grass in the ocean outside Kragerø. No eel grass, then no fish. The 7th graders jump into the sea all year around except when there is ice! Photo: Petter Jørgensen

Put your blinkers on for fun in education! Using a sense of humour enhances learning. And so does coming out of a "musty" classroom! Alternating learning arenas is a good thing.
