1605-1610 German Gentleman of Nuremberg's suit. Doublet pattern from Janet Arnold's "Patterns of Fashion 1560-1620". Rest of the patterns invented/modified from other sources. Costume 2008-09. Incomplete in a certain sense - along with many of the other costumes - I intend to add silver beads to the cloak, a pleated ruff and cuffs, half done. The matching gloves, hose and shoes are not shown.
Greatest of Holy Roman Emperors, Charles V - His forty-year reign encompassed the end of the Renaissance, the rise of Luther and the Reformation, and the Catholic Reform movement. He also struggled to hold together the empire of German-speaking peoples, presided over the conquest of the New World, and reigned over the largest empire in European history. In 1558, he abdicated his throne, exhausted.
