Jim and Elizabeth George would like to wish you all a blessed Christmas and Happy New Year.
"And the angel said to them, 'Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord." (Luke 2:10-11)
Let's follow the Magi's example this Christmas: Rejoice exceedingly with great joy. Fall down and worship Jesus, your precious Savior. Offer Him our treasures.
DEVOTION: With faithful hearts, the shepherds responded to the good news of a Savior born. As we celebrate the birth of Jesus, let’s take a look at the Christmas story and our response to this amazing news.
I’ve been through some dark days of depression. Days when I could recall almost every negative thing that had ever happened to me. I relived unkindnesses and mistreatments. I reviewed my failures and disappointments along with my dreams that, by the looks of things, were never going to come true. I felt oppressed and numb. A heavy, dark fog settled in my head. I wanted to get into bed, sink my head into the pillow, and close my eyes. You see, with my eyes shut, maybe—just maybe—the fog…
'And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, 'Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!' (Luke 2:13-14)
"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." (Isaiah 9:6)
O Lord, this Christmas give me a heart of joy so I can follow in Your steps and gladly serve my spouse. May I serve them as I pray for them. May I serve with the attitude of doing it unto You. And when my heart tires of serving, remind me of Yourself and Your holy hands washing the disciples’ feet! May I become Your twin in selflessly tending to my spouse's needs. Amen.
When you think of angels, does your mind go to the figure many people place on the top of a Christmas tree? This is only natural because the Christmas story in Luke 2 speaks of angels. The English word 'angel' comes from the Greek, meaning 'messenger.' In Scripture an angel is a created being whose essential task is to be a messenger from God. An angel told Mary and Joseph about her pregnancy, as well as announced Jesus' birth to the shepherds. These heavenly beings spoke to the…
Mary, Jesus' mother, recognized salvation was through the divine grace of God revealed in His Son, the Messiah and long-awaited Savior. Her song recorded in Luke 1:47 begins, 'My spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.' Are you wondering if you need a Savior? Consider what Jesus Christ, the Savior God sent, offers you. He…
❄️ Read the Gospel accounts of Jesus' birth this week in Matthew 1-2 & Luke 1-2. Thank God for these truths as you rejoice, Hallelujah, what a Savior! Silent night, holy night! All is calm, all is bright. Round yon Virgin, Mother and Child. Holy infant so tender and mild, Sleep in heavenly peace, Sleep in heavenly peace.
A Mom After God's Own Heart: 10 Ways to Love Your Children by Elizabeth George
When we think 'Christmas,' it always seems so ideal, so perfect, doesn’t it? But in reality, it can get pretty hectic. Finding that balance between a Christ-centered Christmas and real life is a challenge, and Mom often finds herself right in the middle. Proverbs 4:23 reminds us to 'Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it springs the issues of life.' In other words, we’re to present our entire being to God—heart first. What do the choices you’re making this holiday season reveal…
Love came down at Christmas, Love all lovely, Love Divine, Love was born at Christmas, Star and Angels gave the sign. “'Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel' (which means, God with us)." (Matthew 1:23) (poem: C. Rossetti)
From the beginning of biblical history, God had a plan of redemption: a promised Savior for sinful man. For centuries, devout Jews regularly searched the Old Testament prophecies in the hopes of understanding when and where this Savior, their Messiah, would appear. One of these prophecies came from the book of Isaiah: Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel. (Isaiah 7:14) The birth of God’s Son, the…
