Grevy's Zebra headshot. Zebra, Zebras are several species of African equids (horse family) united by their distinctive black and white stripes. Their stripes come in different patterns, unique to each individual. There are three species of zebras: the plains zebra, the Grévy's zebra and the mountain zebra. various anthropogenic factors have had a severe impact on zebra populations, in particular hunting for skins and habitat destruction. Grévy's zebra and the mountain zebra are endangered.

Maneless zebras (Equus quagga borensis) at Kidepo Valley National Park in Uganda - photo by Mark Jordahl, via Wikipedia;  They are a subspecies of Plains zebras found in the northern parts of eastern Africa, including Kenya, Uganda, and South Sudan. They are  generally the darkest form of the Plains zebra.

The maneless zebra was first described in 1954 by Tony Henley, then a Ranger in the Game Department of the Uganda Protectorate based in Moroto and in charge of Karamoja District. Maneless zebras at Kidepo Valley NP - Uganda.
