On a drive down Nichols Canyon Road the other day, all I could think about were 1) how beautiful and cool it was and 2) this painting by David Hockney (Nichols Canyon, 1980)

David Hockney - Nichols Canyon Hockney is constantly reinventing himself. His Nichols Canyon is like a Fauvist take on the flattened perspective landscapes of Renaissance painters.

David Hockney, Sun I enjoy his more sketchy marks in this piece, and how he conveyed the light coming through the window. The shadows and the slats in the shutter/door behind the table and plant are nice, and the marks used to achieve this is effective.
