It’s beginning to look a little like Christmas…
I’m just being busy crafting and doodling around in my sewing room…and singing Christmas songs in my head while I work.
5th grade color studies underway... (+ snowmen)
As a painter and color enthusiast myself, I get really fired up for a good session of painting with the kids. Fifth graders are beginning their nonobjective color studies, inspired by works from Paul Klee, Arthur Dove, and Sonia Delauney. We completed a prep sheet with thumbnail sketches, plotted compositions, and mapped out color schemes, then dove right in. After umpteen years of washing paint trays, I finally figured out how to use lidded condiment cups and magazines as palettes - just…

I couldn't wait to start doing winter-ish lessons with my Kindergartners and First Graders. There is such a level of excitement when you make snowmen, snowflakes, reindeer, and Santas. I found this project on Artsonia and added my own little twist on it, incorporating the use of felt and (what was I thinking?!) GLITTER! They've turned out so cute! You will need: 9x12 turquoise paper 2 6x6" square pieces of white paper cut felt in various colors small orange paper black markers silver glitter…

So, I'm telling you that in the hope that public accountabilty will shame me into finishing the bloomin' things by Sunday. This Sunday. For some reason Christmas…

Winter Houses, Kindergarten
I found the idea for this cute art lesson on the blog, Plastiquem. This lesson is quite simple. Basically my students used simple shapes to create houses. Then, we used a bit of torn paper for the snow at the bottom. After this, we used dots of white paint for the snow in the sky. Finally, the trees were drawn in oil pastel. These are very cute! Plus, It is also a great math integration on shapes.
