Can storage space be created in a way that creates atmosphere and cosiness? Sure! Here, the cupboards form a nice cave around the top of the bed. Feel free to paint the wall behind in a nice color that emphasizes the solution rather than trying to camouflage it. The cabinet is built from kitchen elements from Ikea and the wall is painted in the color Pink Moon from File under Pop.
Do you have a cupboard with doors that don't fit the expression, or are you struggling to find the right fronts? The wall is painted in the color Clunch from Farrow & Ball.
Small, integrated seating that invites coziness are perfect if you want to give your home an extra dose of personality. You can e.g. transform part of the cupboard wall in the hallway, in the kitchen or in the bedroom into a cozy nook with a soft mattress, some pillows and a small lamp or string of lights. The cupboard with the cozy nook consists of Ikea modules and a soft mattress with a home-made cover.
You can save both time and money by starting from standard modules, e.g. kitchen cabinet. Just remember to putty all the gaps, cracks and shelves so that the furniture looks like it was built by a cabinetmaker, and paint it all in a beautiful color. The bookshelf is built from kitchen modules from Ikea and painted in the color Poppyseed from Jotun
A built-in bookcase gives the room character and personality. If you are going to build it yourself, remember to think about the size of the different rooms in the bookcase and whether there are special things that need space, e.g. a lamp, a picture, the TV or perhaps a small writing desk? If the rooms are the same size, the expression will be calm, while varying sizes give a more dynamic, lively expression, and it will be easier to find space for your favourites.
An additional bonus with wall panels is that the wall area to be furnished is smaller, and it is easier to get a fully cast result. E.g. smaller pictures will be nicer than on a large, bare wall. The wall is painted in the color Vanilla and the parapet panel in the color Impression. Both from Jotun.
DIY Wall panels with moldings. You can test the look by dividing the wall with masking tape, feel free to try several options. Should the lists form one or two fields in height? Should they be small or large? Also think about whether there are any lines in the room that you can use as a starting point, e.g. a window frame or window bars. Also remember to take the sockets' position into account when you measure up, so that the strip does not collide with the sockets.
Chest panel and decorative moldings give you new opportunities to play with colors in the interior. If you paint the panels in the same color as the wall, the expression will be quite discreet, but if you paint them in the same color as window frames or other woodwork in the room, it will be more eye-catching and part of the decoration in the room. Simple moldings give the room a stately touch.
To get more storage space and change the style of the apartment you can built a cabinet that frames your bed. If you build it like this, and then later fancy a complete cupboard wall, there is room for two extra modules in the middle. The bedding is from Juna, the pillows from Fabrek and the patchwork carpet is vintage.
